Jahidul had established a solid trans–border network of Islamist radicals spanning India and Bangladesh in the last four years since he was hijacked by his comrades from a prison van in Bangladesh.

He is the mastermind of the Bodh Gaya blast near Kalachakra Maidan. NIA filed an FIR in the case on Feb 3. Jahidul has been taken and produced in a Patna Court and taken on transit remand. Bangladesh intelligence officials will soon join Indian sleuths to interrogate the dreaded terrorist

He was implicated in the Khagragarh bomb making factory in West Bengal’s Burdwan district and also the mastermind behind the bomb explosion at Bodh Gaya during the Dalai Lama’s presence there in January.

A team of NIA arrested Jahidul, also known as Kausar @Munna @Mizan @Boma Mizan, during a raid at his Ramanagara shelter near Bengaluru last Sunday night.

“Some electronic devices and traces of explosives were seized from his shelter,” NIA spokesman Alok Mittal said.

Mittal also said, Jahidul is a top leader of JMB in India and is also wanted in the 2014 Burdwan blast case and in many other cases in Bangladesh.

NIA’s Mittal said Mustafizur Rahman @Shahin, one his of aides, had arranged and assembled all the explosives for the incident on Jahidul’s directive.

A low intensity bomb blast took place near Kalchakra ground in Bodh Gaya on Jan 19 when the Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama was present in town. A couple of crude bombs and a large quantity of explosives were also recovered from the place.

Jahidul was produced before a special NIA court in Bengaluru which sent him to five–day transit remand. He will now be produced before a special NIA court in Patna also.

In Bangladesh, Jahidul stands convicted for life behind bars for his proven involvement in a spate of bombings and murders.

His close comrade Salahuddin Salehin who also escaped with him at Trishal in Mymensingh (Bangladesh) in Feb 2014 is still at large, possibly hiding somewhere in south India.

Both Jahidul and Salahuddin are said to enjoy the shelter of the Indian Mujahideen with whom the JMB has close operational ties. ■
