London Metropolitan Police, tipped off by British intelligence, has seized nearly ten million UK pounds in cash from two houses in London earlier in March and senior officials now believe this money was on its way to four Islamist radical groups in Bangladesh for a concerted terror campaign.

A report in http://banglanewspost.com/ says nearly 10 million UK pounds worth Taka 136 crores was seized from two houses in London – one located in Aldgate and another in White Chapel during raids on 2nd and 3rd March.

One 29-year old Bangladesh national Imtiaz Ahmed has reportedly provided the name of BNP leader Tarique Rahman as the sender of this quantum of huge funds, whose source is not clear.

Report named Hizb-ur-Tahrir, Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HUJI) as the recipient of this huge pile of cash

Imtiaz is among the five arrested with this stash of cash – the four other arrested are Pakistanis, said the report in http://banglanewspost.com/.

The report said Imtiaz has named Tarique Rahman but Rahman has so far neither denied nor owned up the allegations.

LOOKEAST is looking forward to Tarique’s reactions to suggestions made in the report linking his name to the huge stash of cash and that they were being send by the hawala route to four Islamist radical groups active in Bangladesh.

The report named Hizb-ur-Tahrir, Jamaat ul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB), Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) and Harkat-ul-Jehad-al-Islami (HUJI) as the recipient of this huge pile of cash.

It suggested that Mr Rahman was funding these groups to spark a concerted reign of terror following the jailing of his mother and BNP chief Begum Khaleda Zia in an embezzlement case this month.

Earlier Bangladesh and Indian media reports have suggested Tarique Rahman’s repeated meetings in London with Pakistan’s ISI officials like Brigadier Ashfaq and Colonel Nadim. ■
