SS Khaplang’s nephew was elected as the new ‘acting Chairman of NSCN–K’.
It may be recalled after NSCN leader Khaplang passed away last year, the leadership was handed over to the senior most leader Khango Konyak.
However, the press release said an impeachment motion in compliance with the constitution of the NSCN was conducted, and Khango has been found guilty of various charges including ‘Absolute control of power and functions without collective leadership.’
His impeachment had become necessary to save the party from further breakdown and confusion, it added.
All powers, functions and privileges he has been enjoying have been withdrawn, the communique signed by emergency session chairman, Kilonser Chowangsing states.
The statement mentions that the party shall reserve its respect and honour for him in his position as the senior–most party member. It also said in recognition of his long service towards the cause of the nation, he has been allowed a safe passage from the party unharmed.
In his stead, Yung Aung shall take charge as the new acting chairman as decided by the NSCN-K.
The new acting chairman of the outfit, Yung Aung was elected by the Myanmar based NSCN–K members with a majority of votes ‘unanimously’.
