INDIAN website Easternlink, which along with LOOKEAST, broke the huge story of a regime change plot initiated by a Major Power to unseat Sheikh Hasina’s government, has been under furious attack by Bangladesh and Pakistan based hackers working for a business tycoon who is an adviser to Bangladesh government.

“They could not breach the firewalls of Easternlink because after the Chinese hackers attack two weeks ago, the technical team of Easternlink strengthened its site security. But these hackers are implanting porn site URLs in the system so that intending readers will

be diverted to those sites. A cheap way to deny readers of Easternlink,” said technical director Rishabh Srivastava.

The hackers started their attack after sidekicks of these advisers tried to reach ‘an understanding’ with Easternlink management over cross–country telephone to stop reporting the Regime Change Plot in which this adviser is implicated.

All three Bangladesh intelligence agencies have filed detailed report on the Regime Change Plot and the role of various conspirators, including this adviser who was named as “President” in a proposed ‘National Government’ that was destined to replace the elected Hasina government.

A section of the military, led by retired Lt General Chowdhury Hasan Sarwardy and possibly one or two serving generals and supported from behind by two retired DGFI officers, was supposed to step in once the country had been savaged by ceaseless agitations that the conspirators planned across the country, especially in the garments industry sector.

The agitation would be followed by a case filed in court challenging the validity of the elections of those Awami League candidates who were elected unopposed.

A favourable verdict on such a case would lead to a constitutional crisis as the Hasina government would lose majority in Parliament.

That is when the army would step in and install the national government headed by a ‘Prime Minister’, a position for which this pro–Pakistani business tycoon advising the Hasina government was named.

General Sarwardy is already under a cloud after he issued a call for action against the Government in a video interview of Kanak Sarwar, a pro–Jamaat TV anchor. Calls for trying him for sedition have surfaced and believed to be under consideration of the government.

The plot would follow the path of the Orange Revolution in some European states with the backing of a Major Power, marked by a huge use of social media bypassing the mainstream media.

But though this Government adviser has been asked to stay away from the PMO, efforts to interrogate him and sack him have been stonewalled by a member of the PM’s family, who strangely seems less keen on defending Sheikh Hasina and more interested in defending this adviser.

Dhaka is rife with speculation that this adviser who runs a huge business group is aware of some shady business deals and money laundering channels used by the PM family member whose foreign wife is keen on investments in major properties in US and Europe.

“So, this business tycoon who tops the list of those involved in money laundering and bank defaults according to a Bangladesh Bank secret report is using his black clout rendering the Bangladesh PM hopelessly cornered and defenceless. Can you believe she can’t sack the arch conspirator planning to bring down her government,” said a top Bangladesh Intelligence official on phone on condition of strict anonymity.

The Bangladesh Government blocked access to Easternlink website since early last week. Then cohorts of this adviser tried to reach a deal with Easternlink through a senior Awami League Hindu leader but when that failed, the site has come under huge attack.

“Since we have hardly any resource and technical manpower in our low–budget website, we have been taxed physically by having to maintain a 24–hour vigil because it would be very embarrassing to have our fast–growing readership diverted to porn websites,” said Srivastava.

He said at some stage, unless these attacks stop, we will have to go for huge counter action that was unleashed by Easternlink‘s formidable army of IT volunteers drawn from some of the best Indian and Bangladeshi brains in the Silicon Valley and Bengaluru/Hyderabad IT zone.

“These professionals are personal friends of Subir Bhaumik, editorial director of Easternlink and a highly respected journalist with a long track record of investigative journalism,” said Srivastava. “Since we have no resources, Easternlink falls back on this volunteer who silenced a huge Chinese hack offensive two weeks ago.

“We inflicted much damage on them and they asked for ceasefire. We are capable huge damage but this case we will not waste time just blocking attacks, we will hit back very hard,” Srivastava said. “And this time, we have a huge and visible target, though we have to assess the collateral damage.”

He said the hackers now attacking Easternlink were from Pakistan and few from Bangladesh. Easternlink has faced severe attack by Chinese attackers after its coverage of the Ladakh. ■
